Description

Corner clamps are important tools in woodworking, metalworking, cabinetry, and DIY projects, designed specifically to hold two workpieces securely at a precise 90-degree angle during assembly, gluing, welding, or fastening. They ensure squareness and stability, critical for professional results.

Product Specifications:

Jaw Opening Capacity: The maximum distance the clamp can span (e.g., 6 inches, 12 inches, 24 inches). Determines the size of workpieces it can handle.

Throat Depth: The distance from the clamping screw to the inner corner of the jaws. Affects how deeply the clamp can reach into an assembly.

Material: Primarily hardened steel for strength and durability (jaws, screws, frames), often with cast iron bodies for heavy-duty models. Aluminum is used for lighter clamps. Handles may be plastic (ABS, nylon), wood, or rubber-coated metal.

Screw Type: Features an Acme thread for strength and resistance to slipping. May have a swivel pad at the end to prevent marring the workpiece surface.

Accuracy: High-quality clamps guarantee a precise 90-degree angle (often within ±0.1 degrees or less) through precise machining and construction.

Weight: Varies significantly based on size and material (light aluminum models vs. heavy cast iron).

Surface Protection: Often includes removable/replaceable plastic or rubber pads on jaws to prevent damaging finished surfaces.

Handle Style: Ergonomic T-handle, tommy bar, or knurled knob for applying torque.

Common Types:

Standard Fixed 90-Degree Clamps: The most basic type. Features two fixed, perpendicular jaws forming a rigid "L" shape. A single screw applies pressure towards the corner. Best for smaller projects and consistent 90-degree joints. Simple and affordable.

Manufacturing Process:

Material Selection & Preparation: Steel rod/bar stock is cut for screws and moving parts. Cast iron or aluminum is prepared for body/jaw components. Plastic pellets are readied for molding handles/pads.

Body/Jaw Formation:

Casting: For complex body shapes (especially heavy-duty models), molten cast iron or aluminum is poured into precision molds (sand casting or die casting). Castings are then cleaned (shot blasted).

Forging: High-stress components (like some jaws) may be hot-forged from steel bar stock for superior grain structure and strength.

Machining: Cast or forged bodies/jaws undergo CNC milling, drilling, and tapping to achieve precise dimensions, flat mounting surfaces, threaded holes, and the critical 90-degree angle. This stage ensures accuracy.

Screw Manufacturing: Steel rod is turned on CNC lathes to create the screw shaft. Acme threads are precisely cut using thread milling or rolling. The head/swivel pad is formed and attached. Heat treatment (hardening and tempering) is often applied for wear resistance and strength.

Handle Production: Plastic handles are injection molded. Wooden handles are shaped and finished. Metal handles may be machined or forged.

Pad Production: Protective pads are typically injection molded from soft plastic or rubber.

Surface Finishing: Metal components often undergo processes like phosphating, black oxide coating, zinc plating, or powder coating for corrosion resistance and appearance.

Assembly: Components are assembled: Screws are threaded into bodies/brackets. Handles are attached to screws (pressed, pinned, or screwed). Protective pads are fitted onto jaws and screw tips. Moving parts are lubricated.

Quality Control: Rigorous checks ensure: Perfect 90-degree (or set) angle accuracy, smooth screw operation, sufficient clamping force, absence of defects, and overall dimensional conformity.

Packaging: Clamps are cleaned, oiled (if necessary), and packed for shipping, often with instructions.
